69 rambler american v8 conversion axle swap
i just recently aquired a 69 rambler american 2 door sedan and i'm doing a v-8 conversion on it. i don't think the stock axle will be able to take the power. i took the old 199 and t-96 out and i'm putting in a 360 out of a 73 jeep and a th400 tranny. i've been racking my brains trying to find a rear end i could swap that has the same track and haven't been able to get far. i am new to the amc family and not sure what i should be looking for. if anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
The most obvious axel is a V8 axel from a 66 - 69 American. You could also narrow a Ford 8.8 or 9 inch axel to fit. In the mean time, as long as you don't add sticky tires or any other type of traction aid, the stock axel will hold up to some abuse.
