Intake manifold question
Alright, for a relatively stock motor, which manifold is better?? The Performer or the new Air Gap?

This is the type question that gets all kinds of opinions! If it's going on a daily driver that will be driven in cool to cold weather I'd use the Performer. If it's going to be a fair weather car only driven in the spring and summer, maybe early fall, but not in weather below 40 or so, the Air Gap might be a better choice. The Air Gap is made to keep the intake cooler for a slight performance increase. For normal driving the Performer will warm up a bit faster, and should be a bit better for economy also. The Air Gap might produce 5-10 hp more under ideal conditions (warm days), but would suffer a bit in economy and overall cold weather driving.

Depending on the cubic inch and exactly what you mean by relatively stock. If it is a 304 with not much cam, Performer. If it is a 401 with a stock or almost stock spec cam, still Performer if you are looking for all around fuel economy and mild drive-ability. If it is a 401 with lets say a slightly larger cam like a .488 or higher lift and a little more duration and best fuel economy is not really your ultimate goal, then the Air Gap.
For smaller engines and close to stock larger ones where you want the most out of the intake and the best fuel economy, then I prefer the Offenhauser Dual Port intake over the Performer.

If it is mostly a street driver I would go with the Performer.....the
Air Gap is an updated version
of the R4B....and does not work well in cool weather no heat
crossover...the R4B is a good manifold
and works year a round.....I have one on the 360 in my AMX and I have a
Performer on the 360
in my Jeep GW....I like them both....have not tried the Air Gap yet.....

Although I agree with the Performer on a 360, it is questionable on a 401 as being my choice over the others out there. If I was looking for improved fuel economy and low end torque while still getting hp when I needed it on a basically stock 401, I would consider the Offy Dual Port (Dual Port not Dual Plane). I agree with the Airgap not being the best if you are going to drive this vehicle in the cold months of the year where the temps are below 45 degrees. Not only does it not have a heat cross over as stated, it also has as the name implies a gap between the runners and bottom pan. This causes a much cooler intake charge that will hurt fuel mileage as well as take much more time before it warms up and runs good. The R4B would be a good choice. This will give you good power throughout the range for a stock 401. Another good choice and better in my mind would be a Rebel Machine intake if you can find one. Clean up the
#5 runner a little so it gets equal flow to that cylinder and you will have an intake that pulls hard all the way to 6000 rpm, works well in cold weather and gets decent mileage. A lot of this depends on how you will use the vehicle as with most power upgrades. They all have their place but there isn't one that will do all.

Jesse,
If the front suspension travel limiters are easily removed I'll take those
too!
I'm assuming that they are the same as on Javelins.
I would like to get the top and bottom control arms too, but that's a lot
more work.
They're the same for 70 on up Javelins too aren't they?
Armand
