I  just bought a 1958 rambler rebel super and also a 1965  marlin, already have a javelin but have never done any restoration  can anyone tell me where and how is best too start??

I'm afraid that the answer is a non committal it depends.

If the body is good and the car is safe to be driven then the obvious place to start is the drive train if it has not already been freshened up. On the other hand, if there is serious rot in the subrame area resulting in the car being physically unsafe in its current physical condition, then the body is a MUST before you bother with the drive train.

Of course there is always the issue of stopping with regard to whether or not the brakes are up to snuff or not so as much as the body and frame or engine may need attention, if the brakes are not in tip top shape then that is the area that you will need to focus on first. Being able to stop trumps all other issues due to the dire consequences of not being able to stop in time to avoid the guy in front of you!
