1969 Rambler

While the 1966 - 1969 American, Rogue, and Rambler cars are cosmetically and mechanically very similar, there are many year to year changes that prevent the swapping of parts from year to year while maintaining the correct appearance and function of your car. The purpose of this page is to outline what will properly interchange so that you can be assured you are putting the correct parts on your car during it's repair or restoration.

Bolted On Body Panels

Front Sheet Metal

• Hoods interchange from 1966 - 1968 on all models.
• Hood hinges interchange from 1966-1969 on all models.
• Front fenders interchange from 1967-1969. 1966 uses three different fenders (220 type 1, type 2, and 440/Rogue type 1).
• Headlight buckets interchange 1966-1967. 1968 uses two different headlight buckets (type 1 and type 2). 1969 uses its own headlight bucket.
• Bumper to grille filler panel interchanges 1967-1969. 1966 uses one of two different panels (type 1 and type 2).
• Headlight doors (sometimes called a headlight bezel) interchange from 1967-1969.
• Hood latch striker interchanges from 1966-1969.
• Hood latch interchanges from 1967-1969.
• Hood latch support (this is the bracket the hood latch attaches to) interchanges from 1967-1968. 1966 and 1969 each have their own support.

Bumpers & Grilles

• All front bumpers and brackets are the same for all 1966-1969 models.
• All rear bumpers and brackets are the same for all 1966-1969 models.
• Upper grille to radiator support brackets are the same for all 1966-1969 models.

Note: Contrary to popular belief, you cannot swap bumpers front to rear. While they appear to be the same basic stamping, there are differences in placement of bolt holes for the brackets that prevent using the proper brackets.

Lights

• Backup and license plate lights interchange with all models except for station wagons which have their own backup and license plate lights. Backup light lenses interchange with all models from 1966-1969.
• Front turn signal light housings interchange from 1966-1968 on all models. Lenses interchange 1966-1969 on all models.
• Tail lights interchange on all 1967-1969 models except for station wagons.
• Tail lights housings on 1966-1969 station wagons interchange. Lenses vary from year to year.

Doors

• Door hinges interchange with all 1966-1969 models. Note that each location (front upper and lower, rear upper and lower) has its own unique hinge.
• Door handles interchange with all 1966-1969 models and are the same front to rear and side to side.
• Rear doors interchange from 1966-1968.
• Outer door skins on all similar doors interchange from 1966-1969.
• Front doors interchange from 1966-1968 (1968 type 1 only)  on 4 door sedans and station wagons.
• Front doors interchange from 1966-1968 (1968 type 1 only)  on 2 door sedans.
• Front doors interchange from 1966-1968 (1968 type 1 only)  on 2 door hardtops.
• Window frames interchange from 1966-1969 on similar sedan door types (4 door or 2 door).

Tailgate

• Tailgates interchange from 1967-1969. There were two 1966 tailgates -- one for electric windows, one for manual windows.
• Tailgate access cover interchanges from 1966-1969.
• Tailgate support straps interchange from 1966-1969. There are left and right straps.
• Tailgate hinges interchange from 1966-1969. There are left and right hinges.
• Spring rod, clamps, and spaces interchange from 1966-1969.
• Tailgate window crank interchanges from 1966-1969 on all models with manual window.
• Tailgate escutcheon interchanges from 1966-1969 on all models with electric window.

Welded On Body Parts

Front Sheet Metal

• The inner fender panel nearest the firewall and the shock tower interchanges from 1966-1969.
• The front most inner fender panel interchanges 1967-1968.
• The frame sill interchanges 1966-1967. 1968 has a type 1 and type 2 frame sill. 1969 is different again.
• The radiator support is made of 6 separate panels. The lower bar and lower bar to side panel extensions interchange from 1966-1969. The side panels and upper bar interchange 1967-1968. All other years use panels specific to that year.
• Lower radiator support bar to radiator seal and upper bar to radiator extension panel interchange from 1966-1969.
• Inner fender to cowl brace interchanges 1966-1969.

Side Sheet Metal

• 4 door and station wagon outer rocker panels interchange from 1966-1969.
• All 2 door outer rocker panels interchange from 1966-1969.

Rear Sheet Metal

• Quarter panels interchange from 1966-1969 within the same body style (2 door sedan, 4 door sedan, hardtop, convertible, station wagon).
• Trunk lids interchange from 1966-1968.
• Trunk hinges interchange from on all 1966-1969 models except convertibles which use unique hinges.
• Trunk hinge rods interchange from on all 1966-1969 models except convertibles which use unique rods.
• Rear filler panel interchanges from 1967-1969.

Tailgate

• Tailgate sill interchanges from 1966-1969.
