HELP ! To remove 70 javelin floor shifter?

HELP ! To remove 70 javelin floor shifter?
Wanting to remove carpet and to do so I have to
remove my center console and shifter and I can't
seem to figure out how the button on the 1970
shifter comes apart, PLEASE HELP!

As I recall, this should be the same as the 69 shifter. which you just unscrewed from the shaft. I looked up shifter removal in my 70 service manual and all it said was to remove the shift ball and pull the console over the shifter shaft.
