creating content -- confused
I'm trying to create a.. a... well there's problem number 1. I have no idea what the content types really mean; is there an example/sample page?
I'm trying to create a web page that contains mixed text and images; a guide to identifying AMC bellhousings. The whole content-creation process is quite opaque to me. Even here in this composer, I have a row of icons with absolutely no contextual information. For example, the "image" icon; it asks for a URL. Well that's what I'm trying to create!
There is a Create content/Image selection to the left; so I uploaded one image... it asks for a title, and a body? But how does that uploaded image/title associate with any navigable place on the site? Also, I need to upload a bunch of images; do I really have to do all that clicking and navigating for each image? Is there no way to upload multiple images or files?
Would it be easier for me to create a plain HTML page elsewhere, with directory structure containing images and links, and run through HTMLtidy so it's perfect, and upload that page to this site?
Hmm... we don't currently have sample pages, except what's up already. Since this is a main information page with lots of photos, I suggest you use a "Book Page". The "Story" page is really for simpler things that won't have many changes. The real feature of the "Book Page" is it is more easily edited, and can be edited by all registered users. That doesn't mean all AMC-List members, just those that the admins have allowed full editorial access.
You can cut an paste HTML (or plain text from a word processor) into the editor then clean it up. That might be the best way to go. We do prefer that you upload the pics here on the site then use that url instead of from a remote site. I just hate it when a page has broken links to pics that have disappeared! Site backups will still contain the pics also.
Unfortunately there's not a way to upload multiple pics -- you have to upload them one at a time. For tech/info articles put the pics in the "Technical Pictures" gallery. You don't have to have a body, but you can type in a description if you want. The body text is more for a page with just a picture and a description or short story/explanation about it.
I'm still learning this system too! Bear with us, Matt and I will help as much as we can.
